Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
