Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
