Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He States They Should Face Execution
Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed outrage after Donald Trump accused a group of Democratic legislators of being "traitors" and declared they should be detained and punished "with execution" following their release of a contentious video.
The Recording That Sparked the Debate
The recorded message, published on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who formerly served in defense or defense positions.
"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to defend and uphold this constitution," the lawmakers stated in the short video. "And right now, the risks to our democratic foundation aren't just from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our laws are explicit, you can decline unlawful commands, you can decline illegal orders, you must refuse unlawful commands. No one has to execute commands that contravene the law or our founding principles."
The Former President's Furious Reaction
The clip reportedly provoke a heated reaction from the ex-president.
On later in the week, Trump wrote on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."
In another post, he declared: "This represents really bad, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their words cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"
In a additional publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"
Democratic Representatives Answer
Following Trump's remarks on that day, Democratic leadership released a unified declaration denouncing the comments.
"Partisan aggression has no role in the United States," they stated. "Congress members who appeared in the video all acted our United States with great patriotism and excellence. We strongly denounce Donald Trump's offensive and risky threats of violence against members of Congress, and appeal to Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."
The opposition officials also said that they had been in contact with protective services "to guarantee the protection of these members and their loved ones."
"Donald Trump must immediately delete these radical online messages and withdraw his violent rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the statement stated.
Representatives' Firm Response
The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a declaration.
"We serve as ex-military personnel and security experts who care for this country and swore an oath to safeguard and support the national charter of the United States," they stated. "Our pledge is permanent, and we aim to honor it. No intimidation, intimidation, or incitement will deter us from that important obligation."
"The most revealing aspect is that the president views it subject to penalty by execution for us to repeat the statutes," they added. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their support as they execute their vow to the constitution and duty to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."
They stated: "The entire nation must come together and censure the president's calls for our murder and partisan aggression. This is a time for moral clarity."
Additional Governmental Responses
The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's statements and posted on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is requesting the death of elected officials."
He stated: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this without delay and without qualification."
The Conservative official justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This constitutes very harmful, you have important representatives of the legislature advising soldiers to ignore directives, I think that's without precedent in American history."
The Conservative representative also reportedly informed media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the crime of treason" but that "attorneys have to parse the wording and determine all that."
White House Response
During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when inquired by a reporter, "Is the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson answered: "No."
"It's important to note about what the president is addressing," the official declared. "There are active officials of the American legislature who conspired to arrange a video message to personnel of the US military, to active duty service members urging them to defy the executive's proper directives."
She said: "The integrity of our military depends on the hierarchy, and if that structure is violated, it can cause fatalities, it can cause chaos, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are essentially promoting."
