Tropical Storm the storm is predicted to escalate to a uncommon highest-level cyclone as it shifts towards Jamaica, bringing dangerous rapid inundation and rock falls.

The cyclone, which had wind speeds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is presently veering toward the northwest in the Caribbean region and is expected to make landfall by Tuesday, based on data from weather experts.

Advisories of power cuts and damage to infrastructure have been issued as the hurricane produces up to thirty inches of precipitation and storm surges as high as 13ft above normal levels. "Seek shelter now," inhabitants have been told.

This hurricane is the 13th storm in the ongoing Atlantic season, which normally finishes in late autumn.

Most Intense Storm Threat

A Category 5 cyclone is the strongest type, with winds of at least 157 miles per hour.

Although the hurricane is expected to weaken to a Category 4 cyclone before making landfall on Jamaica, experts said there was "very little practical difference in the overall impacts" upon landfall, and that the storm will be "at least that intensity" when it strikes the country.

"Several days of destructive gusts and torrential rain has started and will cause severe and deadly rapid water accumulation and multiple landslides," counseled meteorological officials.

The country's head of government Andrew Holness commented: "I know that there are many Jamaicans who are anxious, who are deeply troubled, and with good reason: you should be concerned.

"However the optimal approach to address worry and any apprehension and anxiety is to be prepared."

Residents are being told to protect their properties with sandbags and timber panels, and to stock up on basic necessities.

Broader Consequences

Warnings are also active for parts of the neighboring country including the primary urban center, the adjacent nation and Cuba's eastern region, where the hurricane is anticipated to bring similar effects by the midweek period.

Landslides currently triggered by the cyclone have caused two deaths in Haiti, according to the nation's Civil Protection agency.

Expected Path

This weather system is predicted to cross Cuba by the middle of the week before passing across the Greater Antilles and emerging into the Atlantic Ocean.

By the moment it arrives at the Caribbean nation, it is forecast to have diminished to a category three storm.

Although it is hard to link particular meteorological occurrences to environmental shifts, scientists say it is resulting in climate patterns increasingly frequent and more severe.
