Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the United States has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
