Tetris Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent honors show approaches, you'll find a clamor to include additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of followers with niche passions.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles globally maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
